What "preferred qualifications" actually means
Job postings usually split requirements into two lists, and a lot of people read them as one long list of dealbreakers. They're not.

"Required" is the actual floor
These are the things a recruiter will screen for first. Missing more than one or two of these is a real gap worth addressing head-on in your resume or cover letter.

"Preferred" is a wish list, not a wall
This is what makes a candidate ideal, not what makes them eligible. Hiring managers expect most applicants to be missing something from this list.

But don't ignore it either
If you do have a "preferred" item, say so clearly. It's often what separates you from someone who only meets the required list.
Read "required" as "needed to be considered." Read "preferred" as "nice to have, worth mentioning if you've got it."
