Section 8 & public housing waitlist tracker.
Housing authorities open and close their waitlists on their own schedule — often with no warning and a narrow window. This is a running list of waitlists we found open or opening soon, nationwide, covering Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8), public housing, and project-based vouchers.
Before you apply anywhere on this list
- A legitimate waitlist application is free. Never pay an application fee.
- You can apply to multiple housing authorities — just don't submit duplicates to the same list.
- Many lists give priority to local residents or workers; nonlocal applicants may rank lower even when accepted.
- Save your confirmation number, login details, and the date you applied for every authority you apply to.
- This list can go stale fast — always confirm directly on the housing authority's own site before applying or sharing personal information.
